The classy irreverence of the Fedora
Characteristics: it is a felt hat with a medium or wide brim. Besides, it is the most classic and current model among the 12 types of hats we propose.
Origin: the Fedora was part of the male looks of the first half of the 20th century and became popular thanks to the gangsters of the time.
Use: today it is especially recommended for winter and is synonymous with the purest street style.

The timeless Trilby
Characteristics: having as reference the Fedora type, the Trilby is a hat exactly the same but with a much narrower brim. Its main characteristic is that the front of the brim is inclined downwards and can be made of tweed, wool, straw or felt. Doesn’t it remind you of the typical Tyrolean hat?
However, if the Trilby’s brim points up instead of down it is called Player, a hat associated to jazz.
Origin: it is an English hat that was initially used in hunting. At the beginning it was considered as the “little Fedora” (or “pequeño Fedora” in Spanish). In the 60’s and 70’s it was considered a woman’s hat.
Use: it is considered as a hat of between time, although it can be used in any time of the year.
Porkpie: the “sweetest” hat
Characteristics: it is a totally flat and felt top hat, with a short brim and slightly curved upwards.
Origin: it is named after the English cake with which it shares its name, since its shape is reminiscent of the Porkpie.
Use: it can be found in both summer and winter fabrics.
The Venetian canotier
Characteristics: this popular hat is made of rigid straw, with a flat crown and brim. It is light, cool and easy to wear.
Origin: the first to wear it were the Venetian gondoliers, so they were typically male hats. It had its peak in the 1920’s, when the wealthy classes started to popularize it.
Use: due to its material, it is perfect for summer.
Remember…: it was worn by the Mary Poppins character in the Walt Disney movie, which helped extend its use to all kinds of people.
The bowler hat, a real gentleman
Characteristics: it is a classic and rigid hat, with a narrow brim, a low spherical cup and made of felt.
Origin: it is a typical English hat. It became popular thanks to the stockbrokers and bankers of the City of London.
Use: today it is considered the hat of the English gentleman.
Remember…: this hat has been an indispensable element for Charlie Chaplin’s character. His moustache, his cane and, of course, his inseparable bowler hat.
The top hat as a representation of formality
Characteristics: in a classic type of hat, tall, with a flat crown and wide brim. They are made of felt, beaver skin and even silk.
Origin: it was used by high class men in the 19th century and beginning of the 20th century, having its maximum splendor in the year 1820.
Use: nowadays the hat is the most formal hat, of restricted use to certain ceremonies and festive occasions of relevance, usually accompanying the tailcoat or the jacket.

The exotic turban
Characteristics: it consists of a fabric rolled up on the head that covers the hair and frames the face of whoever is wearing it.
Origin: it comes from the Asian continent, originally used by men in some Arab cultures.
Use: currently used by women. It is perfect for events in which the brims of hats are not advisable. Currently it is a trend, being the latest addition to the list of 12 types of hats that we propose in Fernández y ROCHE.
The cap: the sporty hat
Characteristics: it is a flat hat, comfortable and easy to wear.
Origin: although it has always been identified as a sports hat, today it is used to wear the well-known sporty chic, a trend in streetstyle.

The femininity of the clôche
Characteristics: it is a woman’s hat in the shape of a bell. It is generally made of felt, with a hemispherical cup, a cylindrical body and a minimum brim.
Origin: it was the quintessential feminine hat during the 1920s.

The Panama, the most actual among the 12 types of hats
Characteristics: it is a hat made of braided straw with a brim and a medium sized crown, which is usually surrounded by a ribbon.
Origin: its origin is in Ecuador, although it has always been associated with tropical countries.
Use: it is the summer hat par excellence and an ideal accessory for streetstyle.

Weddings with pamela
Characteristics: it is a feminine straw hat with a very wide brim.
Use: if something characterizes pamela today is its elegance. It can be used to protect from the sun and/or for daytime events of all kinds. Besides, it will perfectly complement the most formal attire.
Remember… Grace Kelly was one of its greatest precursors thanks to the film High Society.
Floppy, the authentic bohemian hat
Characteristics: it is a classic hat with a wide brim that can be molded.
Origin: it was popular during the 60’s thanks to the hippie movement.
Use: currently used for the neohippie and bohemian style that mixes elegance and informality in equal parts. It is perfect for protecting the face from the sun during the summer and as a complement during the winter.
